Ultima Online I blame Hiro for hooking me on this game. He’d been playing for about a year and kept on talking about how good it was. At first I just thought “oh yeah? Not another silly role-playing game like Diablo?”. In the end I gave in and bought the game. Big mistake! Average sleeping hours dropped to about 4 per day, and number of fights with Yuki increased three-fold.

After installing UO and connecting to the internet, you select a server to play on. It’s not possible to move your characters from one server to another, so pick a server with good response times, or one which your friends are playing on. Each server can have hundreds or even thousands of people playing at the same time in a world called Britiannia.

Practise skills such as swordsmanship, magic, and crafts to make gold and survive. If you die, find a healer to ressurect you, then run back to your dead body to salvage your goods before they are looted by another character or a monster.

Sun, Soarer, me and Belgarath hanging out at SGP. The problem with this game is that it never ends. You set your own goals, like make enough money to buy a castle, or become strong enough to kill a dragon, and once you achieve what you set out to do, you just set another target.
